Today, the Fia have announced a new set of technical regulations for the 2026 European Rallycross Championship. The championship, formerly known as the Fia World Rallycross Championship will return back to its old pre-2014 status. The last winner of the European Rallycross championship was Irelands Derek Tohill in his Parts for cars sponsered Ford Fiesta.

Although this new ruleset looks bad for some teams, it will also allow the oppurtunity for more manufacturers into the sport. The final round for this years championship will take place in Istanbul Park in Turkey and will feature a 10 car World Rallycross car entry with a notable absense from the Hansen Motorsport duo of Kevin and Timmy Hansen. This will be the first time Timmy Hansen will miss a World Rallycross event after narrowly avoiding an absense from the last round in Hungary.
The electric cars had a BoT (balance of technologies) system in place to make cars more equal. However, more often than not the system was ruled “unfair” with Electric cars often taking the win. The Kreisel electric powertrains cost 300,000 euros to purchase and required an additional 100,000 euro to be serviced for 3 years. Each car is valued at roughly 500-600,000 euro and with travel costs included Rallycross became too expensive too quickly.
Aswell as a change in machines the calendar will also be changed to combat rising travel costs aswell. The Fia has promised a calendar featuring 6 of Europes most “iconic” Rallycross tracks. Aswell as that, the Fia have also promised a “World Cup” style event in a to-be-determined location outside europe. The European Rallycross Championship will also be free to watch Via Youtube and i highly recommend watching the final World Rallycross race (for the foreseable future) this weekend in Istanbul Park, Turkey.
